I have downloaded all the episodes of Hunter x Hunter (2011) and tried to add them to my Plex library, but when I do so only a few episodes (1-58) will populate with metadata, and after retrying a few times, none of them show up with metadata at all despite it being available from TVDB. Files are named correctly (IE: Hunter x Hunter.S01E01.Departure x And x Friends)
Have you been following the season structure from TheTVDb.com? The 1st season of the 2011 version of this show has 58 episodes. If you numbered all episodes continuously, all episodes from 59 onwards will show no metadata. Instead you’ll need to continue the episodes with season 2, episode 1.
You might need to apply the „Plex Dance“ in order to see those changes take effect.
move the show‘s folder with all episodes outside the library‘s folder
re-scan the library for updates — the show should now disappear from Plex
click Empty Trash in the library context menu
return the show folder to its correct location
re-scan the library once more for updates
Why the Plex Dance?
When Plex scans the files the 1st time, it takes a fingerprint of that file. If you only rename the file, Plex will recognize that file based on the fingerprint and remember it had already been matched before. So even if you renamed the 59th file (absolute order) to ... s02e01, Plex still believes it‘s ... s01e59 (for which it cannot find any metadata).
The Plex Dance makes Plex forget that fingerprint and therefore allows the file to be newly matched as ... s02e01.
I did try this aswell as I saw it suggested elsewhere. I have added the date behind the other information in the filename and changed the metadata source to something else and back again and now it is working. Thank you for the help
