The TVDB proxy should query the TVDB for shows it doesn’t know about when a user searches for a match by TVDB id. It’s not very useful to have to wait a whole month to match a show after adding it to the TVDB. The added traffic should be negligible.

The metadata provider It’s not really a proxy at all.
We ingest TVDB data along with data from other sources, so you’re not getting a 1:1 copy of the data like you would with a proxy. We rely on changes reported by sources like TVDB to then update the information in our database.
We never want anyone waiting a month to match a show but I know that the last couple a months there have been some slowdowns which the team has been trying to figure out.
Having access to a 1:1 TVDB proxy is something that should be possible in the near future once we release our updated custom metadata agents - you’ll hear more about this specific feature pretty soon.
