Does anyone know why Plex is taking 24 hours or more to retrieve TV show metadata? I checked TVDB but their info is up to date.
It started doing it before the April 21 update.

Assuming you’re using the Plex TV agent (not the legacy one), I’m pretty sure it’s always been the case that there’s a delay between updates on metadata providers (such as TVDB) and it being available in Plex. It’s because Plex now combine metadata from multiple sources into their own internal database which is used by the agents.
Independent if this is about a legacy or current-generation Plex agent… the gist is that those online repositories have limitations when it comes to how many requests they allow at a time. Therefore agents aren’t looking up the repositories in real-time. Instead they get their data from a proxy of that data hosted by Plex. Those proxies are usually updates every day, though from experience it can occasionally also take 2 days for updates to arrive in the Plex ecosystem.
With the new Plex agents (e.g. Plex TV Series), Plex will in addition consolidate data from different sources – though that shouldn’t impact the update frequency. However if Plex isn’t using data from TheTVDb, updates on TheTVDb might never show in a Plex TV Series library.
I had no issue until this week even though nothing has been changed. Up to yesterday everything updated right away.
It’s a shame the so-called “help” here is to either blame users or claim the problem is a feature and has always been that way.
It’s also a shame that people just can’t accept the help they’ve been given and be gracious about it…
Whether you want to believe it or not, it has also been the case that there has been a delay in metadata updates being processed through to Plex. Sometimes it’s short, sometimes it takes a little bit longer, but it’s always been there.
