When I have my TV shows in its own folder for some reason the cover images and episode names do not match. How do I fix this>

For example: I have 4 seasons of Paw Patrol. See the attached image to view what I mean.!

No image is visible.

How do you have the files named?

Paw Patrol/
  Season 1/
   Paw Patrol - S01E01 - Optional title.ext

That is exactly how I have it listed. The problem is that it doesn’t show anything Paw Patrol.

You are not supposed to create a new library for each tv show.
You create one library for all tv shows. (or maybe 2 – one for kids and one for grownups. That is up to you.)

The folder structure above needs to be extended:

TV Shows/
   Paw Patrol/
      Season 01/
         Paw Patrol - S01E01 - Optional title.ext
         ...
   Sponge Bob/
      Season 01/
         Sponge Bob - S01E01 - Optional title.ext
         ...
   ...

You are supposed to point your library to the folder named /TV Shows only.
Not to each tv show individually either.

If your files are using the mp4/m4v container format, I strongly recommend you to do the following first:

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Okay, much better. Didn’t think that would matter but I guess it does.

Thank you!

The folder structure is very, very important when dealing with tv shows in Plex.

lesson learned. I did the same setup for the movies but I guess it doesn’t matter because everything works.

Yes, movies are much more tolerant.
