seems to be a little better lately, not 100% sure why but for me it might (and this is a big might) that I have disabled parallels running on my mac where my plex server is installed. I will continue to test.
I do have a question for those running plex via xbox one, is mp4 more reliable when streaming (then mkv)? if yes is handbrake the best option to convert to MP4?
Iām a big advocate of MP4 over MKV for anything that streams as MP4 is a streaming protocol while MKV isnāt. That probably sums it up.
With that said you can stream MKV but itās harder because of the lack of moov atom at the start of the file for indexing. In a fast home environment MKV generally work well but when you start to stream these over the I Internet the delay of the file starting to play is much more pronounced. So are skip aheads, rewinds, etc.
So basically MP4 is a streamable format while MKV is not. That about covers it IMHO.
excellent info⦠do you recommend any particular converter? I donāt have that many mkv files but I would like to convert the ones I do have to mp4 .
Same Micro stutters here with my XboxOne (Xbox Preview Program).
The Files are on my Synology DS214play. When i Play movies on other plattforms like Xbox360, Plex App for PC or WindowsPhone, Plex für Opera TVā¦on any device it works without stutters, only on XboxOne i have this damn stutters.
Until the developers are able to track down what is triggering the Micro Stutter there isnāt much they can do on their end.
I have seen a few people say that forcing a transcode removes the Micro Stutter. From what I was looking at previously the only thing I could find that was shared among sample files was a low number of reference frames.
Is your content 24p? if so that is why, the Xbox doesnāt support 24p playback in 3rd party apps, and is locked to 60p. This frame rate conversion will cause video to not be as smooth.
This could be strictly a UK issue. There is a micro stutter, more like frames being dropped, on the bluray app too. A quick Google search offer this explanation:
āAll Xbox One consoles sold in the UK are running at a 60Hz refresh rate. When fed with a 50Hz HDMI signal from a set-top box, the standard for UK equipment, the result is a picture that jerks and judders. In the US, where the Xbox One was developed, a 60Hz refresh rate is standard.ā

Interesting, the Xbox One does have a setting to allow 50Hz. The Plex App isnāt allowed to switch the refresh rate so it canāt make use of this setting, but I would think the bluray app should be able to?

Yep, this is exactly my problem.
I tested it with my (Win10)MediaCenter and had the same microstutters on PLEX or KODI when the graphic is set to 60Hz. In the AMD menue i switched to 50Hz, the microstutters are gone.
So, i hope Xbox will unlock this stupid 60Hz Setting to 3rd party apps.
I have this problem but only when I start some videos.
I must restart the plex app to solve the problem and sometimes I have to restart the full console.
Usually it happens when Iāve been whatching something before (or shut the console without close the appā¦)
With the new Xbox One S, the micro stutter are much less but still there. I think only with mkv movies.
Same test with the same movie on Win10 Plex App or Xbox 360 Plex App, i donāt see this micro stutter.

that explains a lot. when watching TV stuff no issues. fired up Aliens the other day and on the pan scenes its HORRIBLE. frame lock could be it.
Will try setting it to 50hz and see if it fixes it. does XBO support 24p in the native player?
