Just wanted to raise a few bugs

Not sure if this is because of my network, I don't think so, but wanted to raise these anyway. Hopefully they'll get fixed in the new release because using Plex right now is so hit and miss.

1. Stuttering-

As others have mentioned, stuttering as in every 5-10 seconds a slight pause then continues playing. At first I thought this was my network, and of course this is over wi-fi, but my X1 is perhaps 15ft from my router, and 15ft (through a wall) to my server. Running a speed test on my server (which is furthest from my router) I'm getting about 6 MB/s download. So I know wi-fi is pretty good overall.

This definitely seems to happen with larger files. Say a 1080P around 6GB+ will definitely stutter and is unwatchable. Same movie encoded at 720P around 1-2GB seems to be ok, most but not all of the time.

2. Resume-

I was watching a movie that got to about 1hr in then it started stuttering every 5 seconds. I stopped the movie, hit play again and it asked me to resume from the exact spot I left off. Hit OK. Then it started from the beginning again. So I fast forward to 1hr in, and it started from the beginning again. In fact, not matter what I try, this movie will ALWAYS now start from the beginning. Very weird,

3. Transcode CPU-

Wow. 200% transcoding MKV and assuming the cause of the stuttering.

4. Multiple transcode PIDS (unix).

Found that when stopping/starting videos (often because of stuttering) it will leave transcode sessions lingering, often each >100% CPU.

5. Low audio.

Audio is super low. Or is it just me?

6. Won't refresh if console is left on.

If a new movie is added to my library, I have to quit out of Plex and re-open it.

7. Quality settings.

As some others have mentioned, we need a global quality setting. Clearly Plex cannot handle max bitrates even over a fast network. Need to set it to 720P with a low bit rate and leave it that way, not have to select it for every movie.

8. Need genres for library.

That's about it for now. Hope to see these fixes in the next few releases.

Cheers.

1: if i start to watch something and then hold down the Xbox button on the controller and choose to turn of the controller i return to the plex menu.

The one bug I noticed is while using the voice controls to start watching a video, when you say play to start the video and it opens your media, in the top left corner, it shows 'Go Back' twice and if you say 'Go Back', you then have to clarify and say 'Item 1' or 'Item 2'. Not sure if this is a bug in plex or the Xbox One controls but I've only notice it in Plex.

Thanks!!  You have nailed every issue I am experiencing so far.  Especially the stuttering every few seconds.  I do love the app and hope they take notice of these bugs very soon and come out with an update.

Again, thanks for posting!

The stuttering isn't caused by bandwidth issues, as I'm able to direct play with no compression of video or audio, through my LG TV and its as smooth as it should be. However on the exact same connection some films stutter, and like I've come to conclude, its a DTS audio issue, especially with high bitrate tracks.

Fingers crossed this is fixed really soon, as I love plex =) although I'm going to suggest Microsoft support audio pass through to amps, like my TV does, so they don't need licensing for DTS, but we are allowed to hear it as it was intended =)

I just wanted to add that it can be done.. with the right CPU. I just played an 1080p with DTS 5.1 @ 13GB perfectly on my XB1 in the Plex App. No stuttering, lag or such. I fully concurr that it shouldn't have to take a CPU with benchmark numbers close to 10k for it to work.. but until more support has been provided by Microsoft - Plex hands are tied. I urge you to give all this response to Microsoft. They have a great feedback site.

I'm just testing the CPU load on my server, and one of the films I'm having this problem with is less than 9GB, and the CPU load is averaging at 25% and goes no where near 100% when it does occasionally peak.

It's definitely not an issue with CPU load, otherwise I would have experienced this on my other devices, and as I can run 4 or 5 fully re-encoded streams concurrently on an lowly i3 it's definitely not it.  It's also not an issue of bandwidth, so its definitely something specific to the Xbox One... and most likely DTS related.  I just hope they can fix it, and it gets fixed sooner, rather than later =)

Strange then that I have no issues. I'm not doubting you. Perhaps you guys are really pushing the limits of your rips. Below an example of media xml that works for me:

Codec H264
Bitrate 8554 kbps
Bit Depth 8
CABAC 1
Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0
Color Space yuv
Frame Rate 23.976 fps
Frame Rate Mode cfr
Has Scaling Matrix 0
Height 800
Level 4.1
Profile high
Ref Frames 5
Scan Type progressive
Width 1920

Codec DCA
Channels 5.1
Bitrate 1509 kbps
Bit Depth 24
Bitrate Mode CB
Sampling Rate 48000 Hz

I've tested H.265/HEVC too, albiet with AAC sounds, and that works as well (slight jutter when panorming). Hope that Microsoft adds DTS or throughput of it soon so Plex could take advantages of it and solve your issues.

The low audio thing is something I've noticed too.

Yeah I am confused, one of the films i'm having issues with basically has the same stats as the one that's playing fine for you. But then again I have others that'll also play fine too, with essentials the same stats also... its weird =/

I understand. I'm far from being expert enough to solve that or even fully comprehend why. I have hope that the Plex team does and that it'll be resolved shortly (in Plex minutes).

I have the same problem.  I posted a detailed breakdown of everything that's going on in another thread and got 0 responses.  So maybe they just don't know or maybe they have already fixed it.  I guess we'll wait for the next release to find out.
