I have noticed that at the moment on my Xbox One when playing back a remote file I am getting little micro stutters all the time, no buffering or anything just little stutters. I have tried restarting the Xbox one but it’s still happening.
If I play the same file back on my iPad it is fine at 1080p unlimited, no stutters.
The Xbox one was playing back the Video by Direct stream and transcoding the audio which says throttled.
Even when I turn off direct play and streaming it is the same? Any ideas?
What your backend server run on, after the update on mine my NAS can no longer play as the CPU is hitting high load, lee know if this is the same issue (xbox one seems to be transcoding and giving high CPU even when playing native) if so come over to my question on the main screen and we can all see if there is a bigger issue for people with less powerfull backend servers
I noticed this too. My server is very powerful and video was direct streaming anyway. The movie would micro stutter then go black after a while and when it came back, audio was out of sync
My server is plenty powerful and when not direct streaming it always throttles the transcode. It’s like it’s not playing at the correct frame rate and so it looks a little jittery on playback. My PS4 and iPad don’t have this issue.
I am not having much luck at the moment with either console platform, the only solid platform for me right now is IOS.
All video that I playback from the Xbox one has a sort of micro stutter/ off framerate. This is not the case with Playstation 4 but I get buffering on there even when watching back a 720p TV show. The Xbox One had been the most solid platform for me but since the new dashboard its gone downhill.
Just curious: Are the micro stutters still there when you disable direct play and direct stream?
It´s of course not ideal (or an solution) but it would be interesting if these only occur for original h.264 video streams or even for the transcoded ones.
The microstuttering was there for me as well after the new dashboard update. There was an update to the app on Xbone a few days ago and itseems to be working more smoothly but all the video is being transcoded and this compression is causing major artifacts particularly in dark scenes/areas. Its horrible. Unwatchable for me. When I switch to my Roku 4 I do not have this problem

I have the same experience with stuttering. I fell back to transcoding but there is a huge difference between direct play and the pixeled mess of transcoding. The Xbox app used to be the flagship app in my house. The “updates” on both the dashboard & Plex side have crippled the experience.
@ApocalypseStick I completely agree. I’ve been quite frustrated with plex across nunerous platforms. There always seem to be one caveat across all platforms that hold it back from being a pain free experience. The latest plex update has seemed very unstable at least in my experience. I just want one platform that does everything. If the Roku 4 supported HD Audio it would be my go to device as it can direct play pretty much everything except Hd Audio.
i started using plex on xbox one since around november last year.
It Always did feel a little “off” and after some investigation i noticed constant micro stuttering indeed. I think most users cant even see it but it’s annoying the hell out of me. Happens about once every 5 seconds.
Did some more testing, obviously tried every type of stream settings, directplay, different types of movies, dts, dolby etc. Always the micro stuttering!
now here is something fun; same mkv file runs perfectly fine on my ps3 on ps3 mediaserver, but also with plex on ps3!
its definitly a plex + xbox one issue, i dont feel like i can fix this myself, there simply arent any more options left to try.
Also experiencing this issue on xbox one and plex. Other devices seem to be unaffected (android). Xbox One has a hardline connection so its not a bandwidth issue. Server has more than enough processing power, and seems to be very sporadic but consistently happening.
I have the same problems with X1 and Plex sever. Very subtle but enough for me to use Plex on PS4 instead because it runs fine. It’s unfortunate because the X1 interface and voice commands is my go to media hub.
Today i installed a new router, my previous one was a little old And it seems as if the micro stutters are completly gone. Im not sure yet so im gonna do a little more testing but this really blows my mind. Was always on a wired Connection so it never was a bandwith issue.
Maby it was just the latest Plex update tho, im not sure anymore.
@cayars We are still investigating the cause, but it’s a bit tricky because it seems to only affect a certain proportion of users and reproduction in a debugging environment is hard.
Yea I’m sure it’s one of those hard to find things. I’ve noticed this myself at time but only at the start of a movie or tv show. I wouldn’t call it a stutter but “micro stutter” is pretty accurate. It “feels” like the frame frame got cut in half or something.
Unlike some of the other people in the forum all my media is MP4/264/AAC. Doubt that helps but hey…
