Migrate from ubuntu to windows 10

trying to migrate from Ubuntu 18.04 to windows 10… Hate that I’m switching this to windows, its for gaming purposes. But how would i go upon using the hard drive from my linux machine to windows 10 and keep my whole database of movies/shows?

First question, are planning on new hardware or reusing what you have???

reusing the same hardware… im just worried about the hard drive not being able to mount

Are you going to install Windows in a VM or complete Windows install???

If you are doing a complete install of Windows, I personally don’t know of a way to use a Linux drive as a drive for Windows without having to reformat the drive… I may be mistaken but I believe you will have to back up all your media files and the databases… Install Windows, copy your media back and edit the databases with the new paths…

I am planning to do a complete windows install, mainly for gaming purposes. Im not ready to do a second build for dedicated gaming and dedicated plex server.

That is what i have been thinking. I know there are a few software ways out there to mount the drive and copy it off… but there’s more to then just copying.

I have a backup plan of backing it all up to an additional drive i have waiting to install when i needed more room, that i can do and use that and just reformat the linux drive to use again.

I do want to make sure I will be able to download the “plex-server” on windows and just “login” as my current server, bc I have family and friends that i have shared plex with.

What filesystem is on the current drive?

It’s ext4

I don’t believe you want to just login as your current server… I think I’ve read some where here on the forums that will cause problems… I would use a different name for my new server to start… You will have to edit the database to change the paths of your files but you can find information about that here… I’m not sure where the information for friends is stored so I’m not sure how to deal with that… You might have to re-setup what you share on the new server to them…

Add some tags to your post to identify the server OSs so the proper support folks will see it.

Okay cool. I will try that out… if anything, I don’t mind copying all my data to an eternal that i have laying around and do a rebuild of plex and then set my paths to add from the beginning

Where ever you backup your stuff to, make it uses NTFS or FAT so windows will see it…

yea for sure.
I was mostly wondering if there was an easy way to load it up on another OS

Thanks guys! I appreciate it
