Migrate plex database and metadata from win 10 to Ubuntu in vurtualbox

Server Version#: Version 3.95.2
Player Version#: various

I just installed ubuntu in virtualbox to get around the no port forwarding issue that makes it impossible to run a VPN and share remotely. My plex database is on my win 10 machine. Is there any way to move the database and metadata to the ubuntu install without starting all over from scratch?

I also have a new ASUS NAS that can stream plex and would like to migrate there as well to compare performance.

I’ve searched but only found “outdated” guides.

Thanks,
Randy

How much linux mastery do you have at the command line?

excellent

Then I’ll give you the TL;DR

  1. Library settings - Turn off ALL the automatics (scan, detect, empty trash, etc) to preserve metadata
  2. stop Plex
  3. ZIP the Library directory on windows
  4. Move it over

Linux side:
5. Stop plex
6. Delete Library
7. unzip the ZIP and make certain it again lands as Library - adjust as required.
8. chown -R plex:plex ./Library
9. Start
10. For each library section:
a. Edit
b. Add new media paths (KEEP the old ones for now)
c. Save
d. Observe library scan, Dup (2) indicator showing for all media
e. When all are finished, EDIT again and remove the OLD pathname
f. Observe (2) being removed
g. Advance to next section
11. Scan everything again.
12. Empty Trash
13. Clean Bundles
14. Enable automatics again in Library settings.

This is excellent help and I’m sure I can do it. Thank you.
