Migrating home users to friends - will they keep play history?

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171

Hi,

My Plex server has a few friends and home users. As I no longer connect a TV tuner to my Plex server, I’d like to migrate the home users to friends - mainly because it annoys me that I have to select who is watching Plex when I log in (I know I can override this for individual sessions but still!).

Before I remove them as home users and re-add them as friends, is anyone who has previous experience of this able to tell me whether the re-added users will still be able to see the same play history that they had when they were home users, or will their play history be entirely reset?

Any help is appreciated.

Many thanks

Alex

I have shared users that are both friends and home users.

You can only convert these home users, who already have a plex.tv account of their own.
Real “managed” users cannot be converted to “Friends”.

https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing
Under ‘Home Users’, hover your mouse over the username of the user in question. You will see a red X at the right end of the line. If you hover your mouse over it, it will say ‘Remove from Home’.

When you click on it, there can be two different confirmation messages.

On a real “managed” user it will say

Removing a managed user from your home will delete the managed user. Watched status for this user will be lost. This cannot be undone.

On a full plex.tv user account, it will say instead:

You will no longer be able to switch to this user.

Only the latter type will retain their playback history, when removed from the Home.

Thank you very much @OttoKerner . The user is thankfully a full Plex account, so as you say the correct prompt showed. Plex automatically moved the user back to the Friends group with the shared libraries they had before - perfect!
