Hi, I just heard about the new ability to use the Nvidia Shield Android TV as a Plex server which interests me greatly as it means I wouldn’t have to have my computer on all the time. I really want to move my Plex server from my computer to the Nvidia but can’t seem to find a way to do it and can’t find any information on it (I’m guessing because it’s such a new feature?).
I have a NAS with my media and I know how to set up the Nvidia Shield to point to it but no idea how to make the Shield the new server and be able to disconnect the computer.
I’m really hoping someone will be able to help me with this.
Thank you in advance!
As of about 9th of June it was announced that Nvidia Shield Android TV now can act as a Plex server. It is even advertised on the main page of their Android TV.
More information can be found here: https://shield.nvidia.com/blog/plex-media-server
It’s definitely possible but I just can’t figure out how to do it.
Alright, I’ll try the Nvidia forums. I have updated both the Shield and the Plex app but still no joy.
OK, it seems you’re right Trumpy. After looking at the firmware version I have installed (3.1) and the firmware version advertised with the Plex server (3.2) I need to wait for the update to be released. Hopefully it will be released soon!
There are existing threads that discuss the inability to move a database from a PC to the Shield TV. It is not possible right now. If you search a bit I’m sure you’ll find them and answers to quite a few of your questions.
