Hey all. Quick question about migrating a plex server.
I did a migration a month ago moving from my synology nas to a minipc and must have did it wrong. When I deleted the old server, my buddies lost access to the server and I had to reinvite them all. Trying to do it the right way this time.
I had plex running off docker with a bunch of other containers. Trying to setup proxmox so I backed up the entire drive onto my nas and wiped the mini pc. Installed proxmox. Plex lcx created and plex installed. I ran it once to populate folders. Then shut it down and migrated all the plex files. Logged in and there was no setup wizard. I see my old server and a new server. I claimed the new server.
I still see all my friends in library access. The libraries from my old server are intact (not online but still there) but don’t see anything due to different mount paths now. I can fix that. The last time I migrated, when I deleted the old server that’s when everyone disappeared.
The processed machine identifier from the backup matches the machine identifier on the current plex server.
Anything else I need to check before removing the old server? Or did I miss a step and need to start over? I read the help article from plex and viewed some tutorials online and I don’t see people needing to “claim” the new server and delete the old one.
Thanks for any advice!
