I am about to migrate my PMS from a DS220+ to a DS423+ so that I can install the Plex application on M.2 SSD’s and have only the media in the libraries on HDD’s, as well having two extra disks for more capacity.
The volume on the source server is already transferring the library media content via rsync as we speak, the second volume will simply be taken out of the source device and physically inserted into the destination device (Volume 2 is a separate basic volume to allow this).
Which FAQ’s from the below link are the better suited to follow to complete this migration?
This is a DSM 7 to DSM 7 migration across different Synology devices.
I won’t be able to do a full migration via Synology Assistant as I only have three HDD drives at the moment, two in the source and one new in the destination. I can have the PlexMediaServer share moved over via the File Services sync (I haven’t done that yet), but I am assuming I need to install Plex first via this rsync method.
I am also open to running Plex in Container Manager on the SSD as well as I have seen some users here say it has come with some benefits such as the updates being automated.
Okay, so I am currently using the native application on the DS220+ and meant I would be open to running it in a container on the DS423+. However I will look into that in the future. As such no containers would have been moved over from the old Syno to the new Syno.
So this will be a native Syno app on both sides.
Do I simply install Plex via Package Center and then stop Plex, drop the files from the old Syno that exist in the Plex Media Server folder (via sync which does a full copy of everything from source to destination) into the corresponding directory on the new Syno server, then move that shared folder to the SSD and finally follow the instructions as necessary in FAQ 10?
