Missing cover art after restoring backup

Hi

After clean-installing Windows and Plex I attempted to restore my database and the reg files. However it seems about 10% are missing covers.

Here are some examples of movies that are missing covers:

Cranck 2006
Blue Spring 2002
Jurassic World Dominion 2002
The Green Hornet 2011
Ali G Indahouse 2002
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker 2019
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi 2017
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope 1977
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens 2015
Die Hard with a Vengeance 1995
A Good Day to Die Hard 2013
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back 1980
Shaft 2000
Drag Me to Hell 2009
Dawn of the Dead 2004
Come and See 1985

What I have tried:

  • Unmatched, matched again, refreshed metadata

Moving the film out of the movies folder, doing the plex-dance, and adding it again seems to solve the problem, but it will also cause the movie to be re-added and all statistics and viewstates to disappear. Not preferable.

How can I troubleshoot this?

While not the same it looks like a variation of the issue I commented on here → Some Posters not showing up and disappears - #13 by dokuro

Try the first workaround I mentioned in that link. If that works then you at least can fix it otherwise you’ll need to wait and hope someone from plex has another idea.

Hi @anon5074910 and thanks for taking the time to reply.

I can confirm that this solves the problem. That is:

  • Click on the pen icon to edit a movie.
  • Click on the Poster tab.
  • Click Cancel to exit the edit window.
  • Click on the three-vertical-dots-menu button on the movie.
  • Click on “Refresh Metadata”.

However, this is quite tedious for hundreds of movies and shows. Surely there must be another way? :astonished:

Now that I think of it. I do have a complete image backup of my previous installation, but I don’t know which file/folder will restore the covers to their previous ones.

You could try this Reset all manual poster selections in a library at once or unlock other metadata fields but I’ve found this method does not always help with this specific issue.

If anyone else wonders I solved this by manually editing each item. Yes. Thanks, Plex :unamused:.
