I’m 100% ready to accept the answer that I’m just a moron that doesn’t even know how his hands work, but I can’t seem to bring the Plexamp window to the front without opening the taskbar menu and choosing “Always on Top”. And even once I’ve done that, I can’t move the window anywhere. Is there something I’m missing here?
If you are missing something, at least you aren’t alone. The player desperately needs a Dock icon on macOS, and a handle to move the window.
So, it looks like once you start playing something, the album art or visualizer are the handle to move the window. Still can’t find a way to bring it to front aside from the “Show all windows” swipey move on the trackpad. Doesn’t show up in Cmd+Tab at all.
drag the app from your applications folder and add it to the dock. it won’t be in cmd+tab but you can click on it in dock to bring it to front
Command+shift+space brings up the window. Unfortunately it also focuses on library navigation, instead of simply showing what’s playing, which is rather stupid, but that’s how you’re “supposed” to bring the window back up. Think of it like spotlight search, but specifically for Plexamp.
They’re reaching for a very minimal interface, and I like it, but the shortcut shouldn’t jerk the thing out of play mode. That should be changed.
Also, there is no menu in OS X, so we can’t:
• Disconnect from the server/reconnect to a new one
• Adjust visualizer settings ( I wanted to see what they thought people would like to tattoo on themselves, but can’t… waaaah )
• Quit PlexAmp!
For now, I’m sticking with the player. But will check back frequently for new uploads. Thanks guys!
Thanks, we’re definitely trying to work out how best to handle this…

@29635017607q09609q6 ~ there is a menubar icon which allows you to do all of those things!
@elan I just want to echo the opinion that it’s really annoying that it jumps out of “Now Playing” whenever you use the keyboard to invoke the window, especially since it’s the only way to invoke it.
Given the way it currently works and looks, it feels like the most obvious solution would be for “Cmd+Shift+Space” to invoke focus on the window, and nothing else, and then simply start typing to enter search mode. Otherwise, press escape to toggle between “Now Playing” and “Library” views. The only keyboard shortcut I can remember in “Now Playing” is space, and the rule would simply be “if user has started typing letters, then space, space becomes a character and not a control command”. If you press space first, it remains a play/pause command, as expected.
That makes sense, no? And would make using the app more intuitive in general.
Thanks for the thoughts/ideas, it’s fun to have this level of discussion
