Hi, long-time user and loyal fan who has been forced to use other apps for periods when plex stops working. Often updates cause issues with my android app (Samsung S7), the most recent update (28th May) has removed all the controls from ‘music’ meaning I can no longer shuffle or even play my library… I can play if I enter an artist or navigate to an album but I can’t just simply shuffle play everything… huge issue which will mean me moving away to another app yet again despite loving plex (when it works)… Help!
Also I can’t find a way to sort my library any more (by genre for example).
Many thanks
Tom
Background: All my usage is on my android streaming only music from my standalone WD NAS drive which is more than capable. Every other 3rd party app works perfectly if I’m on the same ‘home’ wifi connection and yet plex still seems to struggle 50% of the time accessing my NAS? Solutions often involve crashing out of plex app repeatedly until it plays ball. The main reason I still use plex is because it is the only app which I’ve found that can stream from outside my Wi-Fi via 4g which is my primary usage. Though I also cast from my phone to amplifier while at ‘home’ which after not working for around 6 months started working again 3-4 months ago
Anyway, I happily purchased the paid apps some time ago for a nominal fee but I’m not prepared to subscribe. I’ve donated to companies previously and I’ve not done this for plex because every time I start to build trust it goes wrong. If it stayed stable for more than a few months I think it would sway some of the less loyal users and people like me would likely buy in.
My regular library of music has the play, shuffle, sync, view style, and options buttons available when looking at it in library form. But my synced downloads no longer does. So I can no longer shuffle my synced music.
So just an update, no change in app today… Is there an employee or moderator who can atleast comment if this is a known bug or if it’s likely to be resolved?
Thanks
Quick update, buttons still missing at the moment, however in another post regarding this issue a plex employee says this will be fixed for version 8.2… Great news, I will update once it’s resolved.
Thanks
So after reading the post from Wingless8625 and getting excited I immediately updated and updated the plex media server too when the app wouldn’t reopen without crashing… Several painstaking days later of troubleshooting, reboots, log-outs followed by log-ins in a very specific order I am pleased to agree that the android app is now working and the crucial missing buttons have reappeared very happy bunny!
I think it should run nice for a while now but this android app is soooo fussy and frustrating, I will update if there are any more dramas. If anybody involved with plex is reading this, I think it is fair to say that Plex Android App doesn’t like WD Mycloud NAS drives. Both the drive and plex media server function fantastic together and individualy but the android app has the power to crash both, these crashes were severe enough that they were hard to resolve and at one point I thought the NAS drive would never reboot.
