Hello everyone,
i used the windows-store app on my Windows 10 Surface when i was in Road Trips with the Camper. I used the mobile server function of the Windows-Store-App to stream prior synced content with the Surface, to an Amazon Fire TV Stick plugged in the HDMI of the buil-in TV in the Camper.
Sadly the Store App isn’t available anymore, so the mobile-server function is gone (at least for a windows laptop).
Please Plex team, give us the mobile Server option and sync funktion in the Desktop App of Windows, or maybe the option to run a second PMS as a mobile Server, syncing content for offline usage.
Thx.
I hate when good content is removed.
Have you tried just installing plex media server on the laptop as a secondary server and just making new empty libraries and copying the files you would have synced before into the folder and rescan? Not a great solution but I did have that going on a laptop for awhile for the exact reason you need before syncing was even a thing.
I know I run my main plex server and have repurposed an old dell desktop as a secondary server for times I have my main rig under other loads or veritas backups. I don’t have any problem accessing both servers from either of the computers interface that comes up when clicking the server tray icon. You’d probably see your main one offline but I have had experience knowing as long as a server is up it will work. Was waiting on a power supply and the backup server ran fine. It literally doesn’t take much of a computer at all to host it.
Use the current desktop app “Plex for Windows”. That’ll allow you to download media so you can play it while you’re on the road. This is not a particularly new feature – it’s been around for quite some time.

yeah, the 2nd pms was a thing i already thought about. The topic here is the sync of watched/unwatched status of the TV-Shows and the missing convertion.
My movies at the main server are mainly 4k, the tv-shows 1080p so the “small” ssd in the laptop isn’t very suitable as a server. Also the CPU in the laptop is also not good enough to convert the content to suite the amazon fire tv stick. The TV in the RV is just a small 24" with a 720p resolution.
Syncing with the “old” Store app was nice, as it converted the content and copied just the small coverted files…
But thx anyway…

i know the option to download content, but streaming to a amazon fire tv stick isn’t possible with the “plex for windows” desktop app.
Connecting the laptop via HDMI to the “wall mounted” TV would be a solution, but then i don’t have any Remote to control the playback, choosing content etc. as i do not want to have the laptop standing at the table having an hdmi cable swinging thrue the trailer.
And watching the content on the small 10" Screen on the laptop would also be an “unsuitable” situation
