I have access to a relative’s Plex server (I have my own Plex account, but am friends with him and he’s sharing his Plex server to me). I’ve been trying to sync a couple movies to watch offline on my iPhone 10 (latest iOS), but it is taking an insanely long time. Downloading Deadpool took me over a day to download. It maybe downloaded 1-2% of the file every half hour or so. Have any ideas on what could be causing this and how I can fix it? Is it something my relative needs to do? I don’t have a Plex pass but I’m pretty sure he does.
If your phone has the space and the file is in a supported format… try to sync/download the original quality. This might circumvent the transcoding of the video.
Otherwise (opting for a different quality or transcoding being required because the iPhone cannot deal with the media format for some reason) you depend on (a) the server performance and (b) network upload speed of your relative’s Plex Server.
I am trying to sync to an Android tablet using Original quality, which I assumed would just copy my 2 GB DVD rip file. Instead it is still Converting at some insanely slow speed. I could have just copied all the native files to watch on the media player.
