i recorded 1 tv episode and it was 6GB - holy cow.
how about a setting for compression. a tv show should be about 300mb.
keep in mind all systems are capable of doing this they will just take time. and taking time is perfectly fine. i take episodes and put them into handbrake and it takes 2 hours,
You can have Plex Media Server convert to H.264 on-the-fly via Settings -> Live TV & DVR -> Device Settings (at least for the HDHomeRun devices, I’m not certain on others):
“should be” haha, no, not as is aired which is usually mpeg2 in ts. I don’t think there’s a way to have plex do it automatically, but if you click on the “three dots” of any item in your library it will offer to optimize it for you, which re-encodes the files closer to what you’re probably expecting.
You can either use the above mentioned “Convert Video while recording” switch.
(Although it won’t achieve such a drastic size reduction.)
If you know your way around scripting, you can create your own “postprocessing script” to add to Plex. This could call up ffmpeg or similar to shrink the recording using aggressive compression. https://support.plex.tv/articles/225877347-live-tv-dvr/
