Is there a compression feature?

Unsure if I’m missing something, or if my searching is poor… I have DVR running fairly smoothly. It edits commercials ok.

The file sizes are enormous; and some of the shows I barely care about quality.

Is there any way to encode these after they’re done to save space? Or even change resolution? And not keep the original. I’ve seen ways to create duplicates, but that makes everything worse.

Or maybe I’m missing a switch somewhere.

There is no way to change resolution, but if you enable the option to transcode to H264, it should be smaller than mpeg2. If the stream is already H264, then there is no space saving. If you have the extend, you can let it do the compression and it has multiple levels you can select.

The alternative, is once the recording is done, you can create an optimized version. If you don’t want duplicates, then replace the original with the optimized version after it is done, then remove the job that created it. Don’t delete the job first, or that will remove the newly create copy.

Thanks for the clarification.

I’m using a Prime, so no extra Extend options for me. I am already transcoding to .264.

I’ll see if I can automate optimization (mostly the post-deletion) somehow.
