Move watch/unwatched information with media to different folder

Hy everybody,

Hoping for some input to understand how plex can handle moving media folders.
I have to move my films and series to another drive. The library stays the same, the files also, just the folder will be different.
How will plex handle the information for every user if the files are watched or unwatched?
Is there a way to move these information also or is plex able to recognize that the file isn´t new just in another folder of the same library?

Thanks a million for your help.

Stephan

Make the folder set up the same
e.g. if the old location was D:\video\movies and D:\video\TV

And the new is X:\video\movies and X:\video\TV

And ALL the data/media in the folders is identical

All you have to do is change the drive letter where and when you first set up plex.

Your watched shows will not change

Hy spike,

thanks for your answer.
And is there also a way to move these information between two servers?
I´m not sure if I have to move my plex server to a different device based on my new infrastructure.

Ok servers are different.

But yes you can move the main db file from one server to the other. (or everything and u will have a few hours of copying)

this is the file

Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases\com.plexapp.plugins.library.

This file has the watched media and the locations of your media

Have neither running and u can simply cut and past from old to new.(overwrite in new)

In the new folder u should delete
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-wal
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-shm

Start PMS and bingo - it will rescan for tags and art but your watched will be there.

I have literally done the 50x as I swap PMS from Synology NAS to PC to drobo to Shield.

If going from pc to pc the media locations do not have to be changed but the NAS and shield locations must be redone…
