Moved my Plex Libararies, now permissions changed and error loading libraries

Server Version#: 1.15.4.919
Player Version#: 3.83.1

I have my media library on an external Seagate Drive and a Windows 10 machine. My old computer ran Plex fine, but it crashed. When I connected my external drive to my new computer, all the permissions on every file of my external drive have been changed, I have to manually reset them to allow any program to access them, move them or delete them. My Plex Media libraries just displays a general “There was an unexpected error loading the dashboard” error and none of my media files will display, even the ones where I’ve restored permissions.

Before I go through the process of manually restoring permissions on hundreds (or thousands) of media files, is there something I can do to get my media files to once again display in my libraries?

I’ve seen this once or twice.
If the permissions are jacked up then I would take ownership of the drive.

That should fix any issues you(and programs if ran on the same account as you) have.

Here is another option: http://lallouslab.net/2013/08/26/resetting-ntfs-files-permission-in-windows-graphical-utility/

This is saving me a huge amount of time in restoring ownership permissions, thank you! I’m still seeing the error in the Plex library though. I can’t see any of my files through the Plex Media Server.

Exit plex while you do the transfer. Exit as many programs running aswell. They may cause hiccups on the ownership transfer.

And that was the problem. I exited Plex, restarted my server, and all my media files are now visible again. Thanks for the quick suggestions and answers. I’m back up and running.
