I have encountered an interesting problem. However, a bit of background before I get to my issue.
I run Plex server on Windows 10 and store all my movies on my NAS (XigmaNAS). I have 3 different hard drives installed. For some reason, the past 3 nights the drive that contains my movies loses connection (for lack of a better description) and I am unable to browse that drive through windows. While browsing through the web-based XigmaNAS GUI, I am able to navigate to the hard drive that stores my movies…except it says there is ZERO data on it. Naturally, this affects my Plex Server and none of my movies are available via Plex. When I reboot the XigmaNAS server, said hard drive is now readable/accessible via windows explorer with ALL my movies intact.
Now for my Plex problem - when I access my Plex server after rebooting the NAS, none of my movies are populated/available in the Plex movie library, including my movie collection folders are empty. All the organization I have done is wiped out! I have to rescan my library before my movies are available. Furthermore, many movies are improperly identified (Love Hurts is identified as Basic Instinct).
I understand that the XigmaNAS issue is a separate issue from Plex. I am curious, however, why Plex is losing my movie library/database. I have many times prior to this issue had to reboot the XigmaNAS server and have not had a single issue with my Plex movie library. I don’t think that, even if it’s a faulty NAS drive, that it should affect the Plex database.
Can anyone explain, or help trouble-shoot what is going on with Plex and my database?
Thanks!
