Movie library unexpected error on Plex for Mac

I was browsing my Movie library with the Plex for Mac app. I didn’t see a “Duplicates” option, so I tried selecting the “Custom Filter…” option to see if I could filter by duplication there.

I was presented with a screen that said “There was an unexpected error”. Every time I go to the Movies tab, the top bar (with “Recommended”, “Library”, “Collections”, and “Playlists”) is shown for a split-second and then the screen that says “There was an unexpected error” is displayed.

If I use a browser to go to app.plex.tv and navigate to the Movies tab, there is no error. Also choosing “Custom Filter…” does not place app.plex.tv into the same state as Plex for Mac.

I tried deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Plex, which did not fix the issue.

Going to settings and selecting the “Reset Customization” option also does not fix the issue.

Yes, this has been reported many many times; it’s fixed in an upcoming version. You can test the preview version now if you like:
