Movie runtime not correct in PMS

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: Latest on Shield Pro, will confirm

I have an issue with a few files where the runtime in PLEX shows a few minutes and playback will stop at that time but in Windows, it shows the full runtime and the playback is fine.

What happens after you trigger “Analyze” on each of the affected items?

Where are the media files stored?

Damn that did the job, I will test playback tomorrow.

Thank you.

Playback fails when it reaches the initial timestamp.

“Initial”? You mean the wrong play time, which was shown first?
What kind of file is this? Is it a “stacked” item, made up of several part files?

Yes sir. It first showed 30m for a 1h40m movie. When I analyzed the file it corrected the runtime.

But now when I play the movie it stops at that 30m.

It’s a movie, a single .mkv file.

In Windows using MPC or VLC it plays fine.

Was this file in any way manipulated? Was it produced by chaining several shorter files together?

Do you let the Plex Butler perform the in-depth media analysis at night? https://support.plex.tv/articles/202197488-scheduled-server-maintenance/

Are there several “versions” of this item? (different bitrates etc?) https://support.plex.tv/articles/200381043-multi-version-movies/

Or is it a “quality upgrade” for an older file, which had a lower bitrate?
I wonder if something changes if you Plex Dance it.

The files is ripped from bluray. Not merged from smaller files.

There is only one version of this file. Ive seen this on two of my recently added movies.

I will go through the threads posted and report back.

Thank you for helping out.

Same issue. This is the very first time I’m having this issue from all the years with Plex.

  1. Was not manipulated, full movie from BD.
  2. Yes Plex butler is running with all ticks selected.
  3. Only one version of the movie\file.
  4. Tried it now but the same result.

Which Plex client type is used?

I used the one on Nvidia Shield Pro, one on my phone to Chromecast, one in the web browser, and the Windows client.

With “the Windows client” you mean Plex for Windows or Plex Media Player?

A test: get MKVtoolnixGUI (newest version please)
drag your file into it
“Start multiplexing”
take the resulting MKV and replace what you currently have in your library
“Analyze”

Any changes in behaviour?
Try playing directly on the phone as well, without chromecasting.

I tried something different using VLC, when I tested, I skipped the movie after the crash timestamp and it played. When I leave it to reach the crash point it crashed. So I believe something is wrong with my file.

I will do another rip.

Thank you for the assistance OttoKerner. Appreciate it.

Yeah, if even VLC cannot handle it, it is very likely something wrong.
