Movie / TV 'tags' revisit - make more tag options for search / creating collections

Right now, we have tags broken up into a couple groups - Directors, countries, etc, and eventually collections.

I think we should have a generic tag field, that we could just put any old random crap in. For example, I don’t really need to have a collection with 50 different superman movies in it, but it’d be nice to tag them all as ‘superman’ - so that they show up in search.

Also, how collections work could be rejiggered a little bit. It would be nice to let collections have slightly more rules. E.g. The Superman collection is everything tagged “Superman (Christopher Reeves)” as well as “Superman (Snyderverse)”

Then tags could just exist on their own. And we could create collections later without having to go back to individual movies. I’ve got one Green Lantern movie now. But say I buy two more later, I’d currently have to add the collection to all three. It’d be better to just tag them as “Green Lantern” - and then when I eventually created the collection, it’d find all of them.

You could already use the Label in Sharing for that purpose (I’m using that to tag award winners or similar categories).

That was going to be my suggestion as well. The only potential “problem” with it is that there are only “is” or “is not” selectors for it; it would be slightly more useful with a “contains” selector.

oh, yeah, i guess that would work.

I felt like that was specifically for sorting out sharing. And all the existing tag fields were for particular purposes.

And I didn’t want to add a bunch of info where it didn’t really belong.

2025 clean-up: this can already be achieved ootb (considering to be implemented)
