Movie Version Naming

So I “get” how to group multiple versions of a film, such as films with multiple discs, etc. My problem is that when I pull up the “play version” dialogue, I’m only given a list that looks like:
5.1 Mbps, 480p
7.6 Mbps, 480p
7.2 Mbps, 480p
etc
How can I change these so that they have meaningful names like “Disc one” or “Vol 1,” etc? I’m also aware that there’s a way to combine these into single files, but I would prefer to keep them as they are. Another example is TV shows ripped form discs that have multiple episodes (like S1E1, S1E2, etc).
Any help is appreciated!

unfortunately there isn’t anyway to modify that selector but has been requested numerous times and I think there is even a feature request thread somewhere in the feature request section.

as far as tv shows, you can name them properly and they will show up in the library, but there are still some playback issues.

/media/tv/showname (year)/season 01/showname (year) - s01e01-e02 - title.mkv

not sure that’s what the OP is looking for (at least w/ regards to movies).

@CKRKO281: it appears you’re talking about multiple parts of a movie, e.g. if you got a movie from 2 separate discs – Lord of the Rings comes to mind.

The preferable approach would indeed be appending the 2 parts. You can do that e.g. using mkvtoolnix without impacting the quality of your source material.

If you want to keep the 2 original files and have Plex treating it as 1… there’s a way of naming the files for that too :wink:

Example:

Movies
   The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
      The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)-pt1.ext
      The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)-pt2.ext

Alternatively you could use -disc# or -dvd# or -part#– just make sure there’s no space between the suffix and the rest of the file name.
Important: For this approach to work it’s important that all parts have the same audio/subtitle tracks in the same sequence!
