So I downloaded a series and TVDB and Sonarr both see that Episode 1 is supposed to be one episode, but the version I have splits episode 1 into 2 for some reason. Is there any way to name the files so Plex will play them correctly?
This should do the trick (same as for movies split across multiple files):
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Show Name
Season 01
Show Name - s01e01 - pt1.ext
Show Name - s01e01 - pt2.ext
Where .ext refers to the actual file extension.
This way, Plex will play both files in sequence and treat them as a single item in your library. However… keep in mind that some clients might not support that kind of stacked files. For this to work the files need to have the same tracks and characteristics (e.g. you cannot stack a SD file and a 1080p file or differently encoded files).
See “Episodes Split Across Multiple Files” in the support article on naming tv-shows.
I am trying to merge disc 1 & disc 2 of the movie Zack Synders Justice league and the naming convection’s are not working. I have the movie in 1 folder with both disc 1 and disc 2 in the folder. I have tried pt1 & pt2 at the end of the file name but plex is only recognizing the 1st disc. I can see both copies when I look at versions but I am unable to see 2 files of the movie in “Movies” so I am unable to merge the 2 files and plex is only playing disc 1.
That looks correctly.
Make sure that the two file names are 100% identical, apart from the -ptx part at the end.
For instance check the apostrophe, as well as whitespace or upper/lower case.
I had other movie files in the justice league folder; trying to merge the .mkv files outside of plex. I deleted these files and now plex is reading the files correctly and is showing 1 movie of over 4 hours.
Scanning this thread and have to ask a few questions. For some reason, using “Plex TV Series” as the scanner and agent won’t find certain shows. I creased a second library and pointed it at the same folders and using “Plex Series Scanner” and “The TVDB” seems to find them all. Among other shows, Plex TV Series not only fails to properly name all my files, it actually ignores some of them. The TVDB library shows 9 episodes in one season, the Plex TV shows 5.
Also, I followed the support posts and saw that by default, the Plex TV Series agent uses the episode ordering based on TMDB. I went to TMDB to see if the naming conventions were different. I did not see within TMDB the S##E## names listed. Can someone help explain this? Am I supposed to use a different naming convention?
If you check out a show on TMDb, you’ll see all the episodes associated to seasons and showing their episode numbers – that should make the season/episode schema quite obvious… but maybe I’m missing some part of your question / issue.
Could you maybe share a specific example of how you’ve named / organized your files?
