Movies and TV shows disappearing from my library but still on the HDD

So just today I noticed my Movie count in my PLEX movie section had dwindled from 1068 down to 1029 and my TV shows went from 29 down to 20 and one episode disappeared from a TV series. I went back and checked all the files on my drive and I still had all the movies and TV shows there. I could also see the TV show folders when I selected the folder view in PLEX in the TV Library but then when I clicked on the folder itself it was empty. I’ve poured over the forums and googles a dozen or so times with the issue I’m having but nothing seems to bring back the TV shows. I did get my Movies to all show up (don’t know how) but the TV shows just don’t want to display in the TV library.

So far I’ve tried the following:

  • Move TV Series folders out of the main TV folder, emptied the trash, re-scanned the library then put back in the TV folder, re-scanned and they still fail to show.
  • Created a season folder in the show folder and no luck.
  • Used FileBot to rename the shows with no luck
  • Tried to put a starting year in the file name for the Series with no luck.

Right now as an Example the show American Gods folder breakdown is as follows -
American Gods (2017) / Season 01 / American Gods - S01E01 - The Bone Orchard.mkv
Previous to that change which had been working without issue it was simply,
American Gods / American Gods - S01E01 - The Bone Orchard.mkv
All the other series in my TV folder are named exactly the same way using filebot and they all show without issue.

One thing I have noticed is that when I move folders in and out of the main folder PLEX scans the folder but then nothing appears so it does seem to be seeing the changes I’m making its just not making them available in the library. I’m also using Radarr and Sonarr and they see the shows and episodes as well as all the movies with no issue.

I wonder if the Plex database has some corruption in it? You might search the forums for database corruption to see articles that relate to it. I think @OttoKerner has responded to a few of those with a procedure to fix/restore from a backup.
