I have added a new show to my plex. The vampire diaries. And at first it was all good, but after a few days a season disappeared from plex. The folder is still in the same place.
My folder structure is the following
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 6/The Vampire Diaries - S06E01.mkv
I’ve already cleared the log files, and the updated the library, but the problem stays the same.
Any ideas?
Do you have other seasons of that show?
Are they together in the same folder? Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/
Did you rename the files only after you added them into Plex and they weren’t recognised?
Try the Plex Dance with all files for this season.
Where does your server run on? A NAS maybe?

Yes I have different seasons and they all have their separate folder. But don’t have all the seasons yet so now it is:
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 2/
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 3/
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 5/
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 6/
Media/TV Series/The Vampire Diaries/Season 7/
They all work except season 6. When the season disappeared from plex I renamed the file names. But they didn’t came back.
The server is managed on a mac mini, the files are stored on a synology. The mac mini is 24/7 connected to that synology.
Just did the dance but the problem stayed the same.
Are all files in season 6 MKVs?
What else do you have in that season 6 subfolder? Is there a file with a special character in its file name?
Check the hyphen - sometimes someone uses a different character for it. It must be a ‘minus’ sign, not a dash.
You can also try to use trailing 0 for the season folder number.

These are all the files, all mkv. I’ve changed the filenames myself, so they are all - and not –
I’ve also added the 0 to the season folder but didn’t solve it.
And the strange thing is that they where original in plex. It recognized them. But then (maybe after an update, don’t know) it disappeared.

I’ve did the permission issue but that didn’t solve it.
I’ve also tried to delete the files from the synology, updated the plex library and it removed the show. Then I placed the files back and updated the library again and now it only shows season 4…
any ideas?

When I create a new library (tv series 2) and placed the folders like you suggested it worked.
All available seasons where there.
You can download all the log files here, I found logs files in the logs folders, the plex media player folder, the plex media server folders and the PMS. All the logs are copied to this link (in the same order the where available in the logs folder)
Okay I think that I need to nuke the library of the tv series. Because even new shows he won’t recognize them anymore.
Is there a way to transfer over the watched status from one library to another?

‘Watched’ state survives everything, except nuking the Plex data folder.
Ok, just found something out. i don’t think the problem is plex. Because I created a new library TV series 3 with the same content folder als the original TV series Library and nothing show up. It gets immaditly to library scan complete.
While the second library of tv series (tv series 2) has also a different location of the files.
So should I nuke the TV series folder on the synology also (after I moved my series out off course

Would it be good to transfer all the files to a different doctors then the media share (like the home share).
Because the media share is serval TB big
