I’ve had Plex since 2017 with about 900 movies, 40 TV shows, 200 tunes, and thousands of vacation photos, all stored on two 8TB NAS drives (primary/backup). I’m familiar with naming standards with apparently one exception, dates. Recently, I’ve had a few movies disappear when there is a conflict of dates. For example, on IMDb, the movie title shows “Bakery in Brooklyn (2016)”, but has a release date of January 20, 2017.
I stored the file as M:\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016)\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016).mkv
After refreshing metadata, the movie appears in Plex, but with no General, Tags, or Poster detail other than the movie title. I assumed the problem was the date in the file name, so I deleted the movie from Plex, and changed the movie folder name and movie to 2017 to match the release date year as follows: M:\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2017)\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2017).mkv
Now, after refreshing metadata twice, it no longer appears in Plex. I changed the movie folder name and movie back to 2016 as follows: M:\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016)\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016).mkv
It appeared again in Plex, but without metadata. I manually added the metadata using details from IMDb. I assumed it would remain that way. However, after adding a few other movies, I refreshed the metadata for the new movies. The new ones appeared, but now the one I had manually updated has disappeared from Plex. The movie folder/file still exists on my NAS drive.
Has anyone experienced this situation and has a resolution? Suggestions? Thanks.
Yes, saw this in the beta build, rolled back and it went away until the latest public update, now it’s in the latest public build too. Hopefully they release a fix in the next update. Either way, it’s not just you
Sorry for the confusion. My media files appear on Windows Explorer as listed below. This structure is defined on my primary NAS drive. I also have a mirror set of media as BACKUP on a second NAS drive, but only the PRIMARY files are accessed by PLEX. I mapped each media type to a separate network drive.
On the NAS drive, it’s stored and appears as: M:PRIMARY-MOVIES\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016)\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016).mkv
This naming convention and structure has worked for over three years. In PLEX when I edit the movie and click on INFO it appears as below, but that’s not how it’s physically stored.
M:\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016)\ BAKERY IN BROOKLYN (2016).mkv
