Have movies in my NAS but does not show up in my library

I have just recently ran into an issue. I currently have 3 movies I have identified as being in the folder with many other movies on my NAS but plex does not show them in my library. I had the movie Creed II for over a year and recently got the movie Rocky II loaded. Creed II no longer showed up in my Library. Rocky II had Creed II’s poster as the image, I went and changed this to represent the real movie. I went on my NAS from my computer (not using plex) and I can play both. I then switched the name of Creed II slightly and now Creed II shows up with Rocky II poster. Rocky II is no longer in my plex library. I can still play both directly from the NAS as an MP4 using windows media player.

This same thing happened to The Avengers (first movie) when I loaded a few other Avenger movies. I loaded WW and WW 1984 and both show up in windows explorer but only WW 1984 is in the library. I have played with the names and even moved them in different folders and so far nothing unless I make some other movie have issues.

I am a bit lost where to turn, as a note I currently have over 600 movies in my library. I don’t think there is a limit to how many except maybe disk space but I have over 10 TB of free space. Any ideas are appreciated.

Sounds like a case of poor file naming that throws Plex‘ matching off or results in different movies mismatched to be a different movie.

As @tom80H mentions, check your naming and organization. Make sure it adheres to the Plex documentation.

If you continue to have problems, you can also add the imdb or tmdb ID to the folder & file names. See the documentation for details.

This matches without issue on my system:

  /Wonder Woman (2017)
    /Wonder Woman (2017).mkv
  /Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Not sure what fixed it but basically copied stuff out of my media folder and then re-added them was the last step I took. Then I rebooted the NAS. Problem solved for now.
