I been having an issue where movie files will disappear from the database.library but not the files themself in the movie folder. I can run even a search on the library and they are not anywhere in the database. I have seen them disappear in from of my eyes…
They are stil in the movie folder and no how many times I have rescanned they will not add themselves back to the library database. I have found if I delete them from the movie folder and then add them back into the movie folder plex will see them and add them to the database.
I went through and deleted my libraries and recreated all of them…I have about 3500 movies in three movie libraries. I have not checked or followed my other libraries to see if they are doing this as well.
I just downloaded the lastest upgrade Version 1.19.4.2902 and hoped it would clear up this issue but I just started seeing the same issue.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do next. I hate to keep rebuilding libraryies.
Server/Settings/Library
Disable: Empty Trash Automatically after every scan.
When you spin down or sleep your storage drives - and Plex scans the libraries during maintenance - to find them gone - 'cause your storage is sleeping - it removes the sleeping items from the database.
With the setting disabled - When Plex encounters sleeping storage during maintenance, it marks each one with a big orange trash can. That’ll tells you to scan the library again so Plex can rediscover the trashed items.
The moral of this story is:
Don’t sleep your storage.
The other moral is:
If you do - don’t empty trash after every scan.
If you’re really worried about the health of your storage drives - don’t spin 'em down. Respinning a drive does more damage to it than leaving it spinning.
If you want to do something nice for your storage drives - put all your movies in a unique folder. Movies in folders that don’t change, don’t get scanned. To bring these ‘trashcans’ down when Plex finds them - it had to scan your entire library system to find them. Then you had to scan your entire library system to put them back. That’s 2 unecessary scans.
A spinning drive isn’t a big deal. Drives are made to spin.
A drive that has to look at every single file every time it does anything.
…is on borrowed time… that’s way more abuse than just sitting there spinning.
Thank you
I made the change in the settings as recommended but today I again had a movie deleted from the movie library…however I use to be able to add it back in by deleting the file from the movie folder and then re adding it…
However whatever I do now I can not get it to show up in the movie library…I see that when I add the file to the movie folder it seems to start a scan but nothing in the library…I have initiated sever scans and nothing added to the library even though its sitting in the movie folder…
I am at a loss now how to get this movie into the library…Any suggestions? This has been happening on this version of Plex server and the last. I have never had this happen in the 10 plus years i have been using Plex and all that time I had the recommend setting you mentioned turned on…
Looks like PMS did find those movies but they got matched to “Justice League”. Look to see if you have duplicated for that. You’ll need to split apart and do a manual fix match.
under justice league I saw to files combined abd bitg were titled with a justice league file address but one it saide no longer existed, I guess that was the file but not sure why it named as a Justice League file that did not exist
ANy thoughts on why its attaching files to the wrong movie?
I can’t say for sure. PMS adds a hint to help it identify a movie. Somehow this hint led PMS to think it was Justice League. It’s possible it was always linked to Justice League but was using a local poster so it appeared to match to the correct movie. Did you add Justice League recently? If so, PMS would have combined this with the old entry and updated the poster so it looked like your Arthur movie got changed.
