Movies freeze up randomly then I cant play them till I reboot server since new shield experience update

Hi All, is this issue the same as what I reported here:

The workaround for me was to set the ‘Terminate Session Paused for Longer Than’ to 0

I don’t think so. Because I have mine at 10 minutes. This is more the video freezing but the timer still continues. Having to back out and reopen is the only fix. It’s not a server issue, it’s a Beta Android TV issue:).

Mine was set to 10, that is what was causing the issue, and it only started happening last Saturday, so is related to a recent client or server update.

Change the 10 to 0 and retest, see if it fixes the video freezing issue. Mine was doing the same, screen froze, but if you look quickly in the dashboard it shows stream as paused. If you wait a few secs, it will eventually change from pause to playing again automatically… the video still remains frozen however.

Interesting I’ll give it a shot. I went back to public release on the Nvidia shield and I haven’t had the issue. But I’ll try beta again and change the pause timeout to 0 and see what happens.

My Plex just updated to Beta again LOL. Issue started again. Time to put the Batwoman light up @romancamelia. When you get a moment can you take a look at our logs and see what’s going on with the latest 2 betas. Thank you:)

4 days and 24 replies…NO RESPONSE FROM PLEX…come on guys any interaction would be encouraging. This is a super annoying bug.

Did you try my suggestion?

I did not. I can try that tonight.

I tried your suggestion by removing the time limit. But I totally forgot to save it so it didn’t fix the issue lol. After saving it I haven’t had any freezes. Nice find.

I’m thinking this is the same issue I’m running into - as reported here, Video Freeze at 10min on All Videos & 2 Shields - V1.18.8.2468

One thing that worked for me however, was to “Uninstall” Plex on my Shield, then play a movie for more than 10 min. Then, I updated the app, and have been able to play everything again w/o issue on both the non-advanced player, as well as the advanced. I’ve been testing it for hours now w/o any more freezing.

Do you have a timer set to terminate streams at a certain time of inactivity in the Plex server settings? I had mine set to 30 and so my stream died at 35. my friend had his at 10 and his died at 15.

Oh and by the way @saltyzip my friend and I both tried your suggestion and it fixed it. Now to get Plex to fix it.

I’m not sure if you’re replying to me w/ your question. I had mine at 10, and never changed it as I had no idea what would cause this. I spent hours troubleshooting it all. Uninstalled PMS, and the client, and adjusted a ton of other settings. It wasn’t until the last item (I mentioned in my previous post) that it fixed this.

If you turn off that timer you will no longer have a problem.

Defiantly an issue with Plex for Android 7.29.0.

I have 3 shields and the only one with the issue is running 7.29… Other 2 shields are running earlier version and don’t suffer this issue.

Changed “Terminate Session Paused for Longer Than” to 0 as well… as a temp fix.

Fix this Devs please…

Might as well throw my hat into this ring fwiw, same is happening for me. Shieldtv and pms at latest public versions. Have changed pause value as suggested as a workaround. Fix would be preferred though from Plex.

I tend to see the issue on the betas when using the ‘new’ player.

If I switch back to old player and then it generally works.

It is just annoying that every time there is a new update the new player is re-enabled.

Same issue for me, running latest public branches for both PMS on Ubuntu 18.04 and Plex on Shield TV Pro (2019). Terminate sessions paused for longer than was set to 15 minutes, removed it and will try again.

I went back to the old player, but still had the stopping problem.

Now testing the 0 duration pause hack. Edit: Yep it works, thanks for the tip @saltyzip

But another Beta has been released and no mention of a fix for this problem.

Same issue here. Both my Shields are on the latest Beta. I’ve switched to using Kodi until this is fixed.

Another Beta, another no show for the fix for this?

Has someone actually seen this thread? Just an acknowledgement would do.
