Shield 2019 Pro Plex freeze

Twice in the past few days after starting a movie from the beginning it totally freezes for a few seconds and then starts again by itself and plays through to the end. Both were 4k UHD files and I believe were TrueHD. I do know the first time was on Shield OS 8.1.1 and the one tonight was on the hot fix 8.1.2 build.

I’m not sure I’d this is server or player related, but I’d anyone has an idea let me know and provide logs. I totally should have stopped playback and grabbed logs from the Shield, but I was too busy cursing at my Tv. :blush:

Same thing… Plex freezes during video play on my Shield Pro as well as my Samsung TV. I’m using wired LAN connections but it also freezes during playback on wireless. Running the latest server and apps. Logs don’t show anything but the Activity on the web page shows the player as “Paused”. I usually see the bandwidth drop to zero on that page and then within a minute or so I know a freeze is coming on whatever device is playing. This is in direct play all the time, but even does it when transcoding. I’ve noticed the higher quality the video, the more often it freezes (4K being the worst). My server CPU is barely being utilized during direct play. I’m a Plex Pass member but this software seems really buggy.

The times it happened for me were direct playing also and I think happened on a stable server release and then the current beta. Wanted to see if that fixed it, but that would be a no. I’ve been staying away from betas lately. :blush:

Don’t give up hope. I’ve been a Plex user since the PHT days and generally these things are fixed quickly. I’ll try to recreate and grab fresh logs from everything later today.

I haven’t been able to recreate this, even with the movies I saw it on. But I have a theory on what caused it and “fixed’ it. I’m going to keep that to myself for now cause it’s definitely crazy town. Not entirely out of the Shield issues wheelhouse, but still crazy. We’ll see what happens…

Well crap. I thought she was going to behave again, but alas. Not so much. Here are Shield logs and server logs of the freeze. I turned on logging right after on the shield so it should show something. Help or looks from Plex folks would be great.

Wait… there’s more! Tried to resume the movie without doing anything else and instead of direct playing like it was, it started transcoding instead. Had to kill Plex and try again to get it going properly. Yay?
