I totally agree with you on the bandwidth. It was my understanding that they could adjust the quality a little bit on the fly if things are not up to par? I know I have zero issues streaming the 4K stuff to my phone even when only hooked up to my LTE service. I got an Apple TV last night and was looking forward to hooking it up and giving it a try but due to wind storms we had no power for 7 hours. Maybe today will be the day!
Iāve had various flavors of Roku, but have gradually migrated.
I have a Formuler Z8, powerful, but PLEX client does not work natively and you have to install KODI and use the PLEX plugin, which works perfectly, however, I donāt use the Z8 as it doesnāt play nicely with TiVimate
Currently I use a FireStick and a FireCube. The FireCube is very nice and plays nicely with PLEX and I havenāt had an issue with it. The FireStick 4K also handles Direct Play, and as it easily portable, I can take it on vacation.
One option to look in the forums for something along the lines of āRoku and Direct Play settingsā. I remember looking for something like this awhile back. If one thing is out of placeā¦boom, it wonāt Direct Play.
A good test would be to find the requirements, then use MKVToolNix to strip out any subs leaving just Audio/Video, then something like Handbrake to create 720/1080/4K files that are compliant with the Roku and see if they Direct Play.
That sounds like way to much work when I can just use an Apple TV
Yepāā¦the ability of a Roku has been far surpassed by other hardware.
