Plex Update fails after moving Plex install locations

Hi there,

I moved the Plex server installation from the default in C: to a different drive (I:\Plex…) as I was continually running out of space. I followed the instructions and the Plex databases moved and everything works except the update feature. The Update logs show me this:

Mar 13, 2020 16:39:47.866 [6172] DEBUG - “Plex Update Service Launcher.exe” “I:\Plex\Plex Media Server\Updates\1.18.8.2527-740d4c206\packages\PlexMediaServer-1.18.8.2527-740d4c206-x86.exe” I:\Plex\ “C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Server.exe”

I’ve changed everything in the registry as well, but nothing seems to have fixed this problem. Any ideas on what I should do?

Don’t move the Plex installation folder away from C: (after all, it’s only 150MB).

Do move the Plex data folder: Moving Metadata on Windows

I haven’t moved the Plex installation folder, its still in C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server

So you got that wrong, please explain, ask for help and that’s wrong?

You’re right, sorry for that. What I meant is that I moved the metadata from C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server to I:\Plex.

The Plex applications etc are still in C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\

Everything works fine after the move, except the Plex update through a web browser, which was previously working fine. I can see the update file download in I:\Plex\Plex Media Server\Updates\1.18.8.2527-740d4c206\packages\PlexMediaServer-1.18.8.2527-740d4c206-x86.exe, but the update never happens.

I have to login into the machine, and manually run the exe file.

Again, sorry for that, hope this makes it clearer.

Try Plexdata log files and plugin support folder
