Moving media & deep analysis?

Do Plex “deep analysis” (‘Perform extensive media analysis during maintenance’) start over if i move my media files to another location?

The reason im asking is that i right now have my films in folders containing 800-1000 files each (around 6000 in all). I’ve read that placing each film in a folder by itself could speed up some parts of the plex server operations (particularly the reading and scanning parts).

Right now the “deep analysis” part takes about 5-10 minuttes per file. I seem to remember this used be faster maybe by 50% or so maybe im having issues with samba under ubuntu or it didn’t do it correctly the first time (adding 120 minuttes runtime for some films). Last time my plex server had to do “deep analysis” from the beginning it took about a week non-stop. So if the rearranging doesn’t speed up the actual “click to play” operation maybe it’s not worth it heating the drives up for so long again.

Anyway is it worth placing the files in separate folders or would this mostly only speedup the standard scanner? This scanner is fast enough i believe. Plex is located on a Samsung 850 EVO, media on WD Reds.

Thank you for your help. :relaxed:

Server Version#: 1.21.0.3711
Player Version#:

It just finished doing deep analysis of 381 files. All these files were already analysed files i had moved from another drive. That took two days running non-stop. Smb 3 and 1000mbps full-duplex on both the computer and nas. Asus ac86u router with the latest merlin firmware. Jbod only though so no raid speedup.

Since it’s so slow it doesn’t seem feasible to move all 6000 to a folder by itself unless having a folder for each speeds up the deep analysis by a lot.

Maybe im missing something i seem to remember this being done much faster a year or so ago but it might just be because of the smaller movie library or faulty analysis.
