Am moving all my movies media to a new HDD I’ve just bought. Would i need to refresh and sort all the metadata or will plex remember everything ?
I’ve got 1000’s of movies so don’t really want to sort through all the correct posters etc.
Turn off “Automatically Empty trash” during this process.
Copy your files to the new location.
After the copy is complete add the new locations to your libraries and then manually refresh the libraries.
Once the update is complete (you will see a “2” in the upper left of each poster) then remove the old location from your Libraries and update your libraries again.
Once the update completes again randomly check a few shows/movies to see if the old location shows a “Not Available” message.
After you are pretty sure that all updates are complete empty the trash.
If you follow those steps then you should have everything like watched status, meta data and posters intact and exactly as it was before you started the process except the files will be in the new location.
