I have followed all the steps. I transferred my data over to my nas. Installed plex manually by downloading from the website.
disabled the settings I needed to disable. Backed up the library. Moved the zip over to the NAS.
Unzipped.
Edited preferences xml with the machine identifier key and processed machine identifier.
Changed permissions using the Synology GUI so that plex user owns the folder.
Launched plex. Here is the problem. It shows no Libraries. Plex runs but doesnt show me any of my data. I should be at the step where I point the libraries over to the new location but I cant get my libraries to show inside of plex.
I recently moved from Nvidia shield to synology 918+.
I disabled the setting I was supposed to and copied the files I was supposed to. I setup plex on the new device and added the libraries and made sure everything worked then I stopped the plex server on the new device and just copied over the database files I was supposed to and restarted the server and it’s working perfectly with my play history in tact
The most important thing to remember is to set Ownership of the files in Linux. On Synology, user plex doesn’t have special privileges . It’s a “regular username”. As such, if the data files aren’t owned by Plex, it won’t work.
Would it help if I showed regular Linux -> Synology (which will also work for Mac)
I dont know what Im doing wrong but it didnt work for me. Whats worse is that I cant have my old server and plex server on at the same time. When I do, it goes wonky.
Yes. I did that. I checked after copying the library files. It had a different user, so I made sure the use plex owned the folders and files but still it showed up like in the screenshot.
Whats worse is that I essentially gave up. I just wanted a fresh start so I deleted everything and reinstalled plex. However, I dont get the new setup process. It just picks up like I never deleted anything. I thought I would just continue the process and rescan all my data so i did a new library and told it to scan. I came back about an hour later and realized that I couldnt access my old plex server ( the one im trying to move) If I have both on, they dont show up under my account. Also, my nas server is called lighthousenas and my macbook one is called Lighthouse Mobile Server. For some reason, when both are on, my server Lighthouse Mobile Server, renames itself to lighthousenas. As such, lighthousenas doesnt show up as a separate server. The very first time i installed plex on my nas, I got the full setup screen. Now nothing.
Here is a small video. My apologies for the audio. My mac’s fan is working overtime for some reason.
In the video, I did a fresh installation of plex. It didnt give me the new setup guide or anything. Just picked up from where it started.
It had my anime library as well. I matched three items. It worked. But then my library disappeared. I could see the library items but I couldnt select the library.
I then started up my library on my macbook ( the one im trying to move) when I did that my nas server disappeared. My macbook one renamed itself NAS and all my libraries showed up.
When I shutdown the nas, my macbook renames itself back to the original name.
I would like to do one of two things. Start fresh with a new library. or successfully port over my macbook one to my nas and just have one server.
