Moving Plex from Windows PC to Netgear Nighthawk R9000 X10

Hi,

I’ve been unable to find information regarding moving a plex install from Windows to the Netgear Router.
Is it possible to just copy all of the backed up windows install over to the hard drive plugged into my router? I’ve started setting up the server on the router at the moment, but just want to quickly import the view state from the windows install.
And also if possible I would like to know the minimum amount of stuff I need to copy across (e.g. I can redownload any metadata and artwork). This is because I have a ridiculously huge plex library and the metadata and artwork will take forever to unzip again.

Thankyou,
Luke

And you want to move that onto a router?
I say: forget about that. PMS on those routers is only usable with a very modest collection.

Hi Otto,
Thanks for the quick reply.
So should I return the router? I hadn’t heard that quantity of media on the router would cause issues, only about the limit of trans-coding to 480p for some files like .avis.
Kind of disappointed, what kind of collection would you say is modest enough? I was hoping to set this up for my parents also as they are not tech savvy and having it always on seemed perfect.

I don’t have any direct experiences with the device.
I can only go by what I read in here https://forums.plex.tv/tags/c/plex-media-server/nas-devices/server-netgear
And the consensus among users appears to be: maybe usable for a small to modest collection but not more.
And you are totally at the mercy of WD with Plex updates because it needs to go through WD’s update process for firmwares.

Thank you Otto, I’m in the process of returning the router.
I think I will build my own Plex Server, I’m wanting to get the best out of Plex so should just build something that can do the business, I’ve put together some bits already
