Moving PMS to another drive takes ages

Server Version#: V1. 19.3.2764
Player Version#: newest
do not know how

I’m trying to move my PMS on a new shield pro from the internal memory to an external usb drive. But it has already taken about 3 hours and it’s still working. I’m trying to move the PMS and it’s databases, not the real media. That’s a couple of TB large and is on a Nas. I believe that the PMS and it’s files are about 1,6GB large…

Anyone any idea?

It’s probably significantly bigger than 1.6 GB and it’ll take quite some time.
(as per the warning message you confirmed when clicking on moving the Plex data folder)

Thanks for the quick reply. Glad to know that it just takes a while. But that brings me to a new question. How large could it be? Because I’m trying to move it to a drive with just 12GB of free memory. Could that become a problem and if so, can I stop or pause the move?

Depends on the size of your server… When I last checked, my Plex Data folder was approx. 50 GB.
Considering yours is still on the internal storage of your Shield… it’s probably smaller (I believe the internal storage of the Shield is still 16 GB in total… isn’t it)?! Your 12 GB of free space might still be a bottleneck (at least in the mid-term)

No, it was on a 128Gbyte drive. But according to the shield storage tab it should be 1,6Gbyte. At the moment I’m moving it to the Internal Storage (16Gbyte, with about 12Gbyte free), so that I can replace the external USB with a bigger drive. But your remarks got me worried that I could be wrong on the size and now am trying to move i.e. 50Gbyte to a 12Gbyte storage… Do you know if it checks if there is enough free storage before staring the copy?

Maybe of topic, but why does it take so long to copy. It’s still busy… Isn’t it copying at usb 3.1 speed? That’s 5 to 10Gbit/s isn’t it?

(edit: spelling and question regarding speed)

I don’t know about the Shield’s internal/external storage… there’s apps you can use to determine the exact size of a folder (and its content).

As for USB transfer speeds… USB 3 can transfer up to 5 Gbit/s (~625MB/s). However… that’s a theoretical maximum for the data transfer. This very much depends on the implementation on both ends of the connection and how fast the HDD can provide your data (with slow spinning mobile HDDs you’ll probably only get a much slower transfer).

Thanks again. It sadly it didn’t work. After 7 hours it stoppen. The PMS still seems to be on the usb. I still have to find out what the size is of the PMS install. (Edit) I Just checkt the size of the files on the Usb on a Windows PC. It says that it’s 6,25GB but the size on disk is 44,3GB. I don’t get the difference… If the time that it used to copy files i’d guess that it will be more then 100GB. And I still don’t understand why it would take so long, This must be something with the Shield internal hardware or even the special shield Plex install. It just doesn’t seem possibly to move the PMS installation. Anyone?

Similar problem here, Shield constantly complains that it has no space despite me removing everything from it (use it purely as a headless plex server). Slotted an SD card in and went through the process in Plex of moving the app/db to the storage takes hours but even after i’m still told the internal memory is almost full so presuming not much got moved to the SD!!
