Moving QNAP server to Mac Mini

Server Version#: 1.42.2

I have a QNAP nas that has my plex media, and also runs my server. I have a spare m1 mac mini I am wanting to use solely as a plex server. Since it has been a long time I had chatGPT walk me through the process and that, of course, was the wrong decision. I have lots of meta data and custom posters on the QNAP server I would like transferred to the mac mini. I know I would have to SSH into the QNAP server and find the files needed, but chatGPT said I would also need to change the UID of several files and chown other folders to get plex to see the files needed. Is the process still as simple as “find the place in QNAP where the metadata is, then copy that into macOS plex server location and scan files?” If so I will also need help with having the mac mini automatically mount the NAS media locations and point the macOS plex server to those NAS mount locations. TLDR:

  1. Move all metadata from the QNAP to the plex server on the mac mini
  2. Auto-mount the media locations from the NAS on the mac mini upon reboot

Thanks in advance, let me know if theres any additional information needed to help.

I am trying to do this also and boy is it a pain. I can’t find the /share files to save my life. This sucks.
