Moving to a new server, looking for general advice

Hi All,

I’m creating a new build and moving from one Win10Pro PC which is currently my personal PC to another Win10Pro pc which will be a dedicated server. I have a couple of questions regarding the transfer and how to best use my new dedicated server.

Will my guest shares transfer seamlessly? I’m following this guide (Move an Install to Another System | Plex Support) including moving the registry data.

I have 4x 4TB hard drives. Currently TV shows take up the majority of a 4TB hard drive. Movies are about 2TB currently. I have kept movies and TV on separate drives in the past and was planning to do the same. However, I was thinking I should either Span or Stripe two hard drives together for my TV shows. Does anyone have any advice on this in general?

I use Sonarr, Radarr and Tautulli to support my current set up. Does anyone have any other useful tools they recommend. This will be a dedicated server, so I would even take non Plex app recommendations as well.

Recommendations for Small Plex Servers

  • Keep your Plex Media Server data directory SSD(s) ideally mirrored
  • Use online storage for Plex, Sonarr, Radarr & Tautulli backups
  • For data storage either keep them as simple JBOD or look into hardware RAID-5

Plex libraries support multiple folders, for example your TV shows can reside in folders on separate drives.

Yes, your plex shares should transfer seamlessly as long as you bring over the registry keys as well.

For more server recommendations you will need to provide planned capacity requirements.

Thanks for the advice.
I’m going to use Windows Storage Manager to create a pool of all 4 volumes in Parity. Most similar to Raid-5 from what I understand. This way I can keep everything under a single drive which will make the set up for Sonarr and Radarr nice and simple.
