Can anyone tell me how to transfer my windows 10 Plex server onto a new windows 10 machine? I’m doing a fresh windows install on another PC, will copy my libraries on to different hard drives (movies and tv shows are currently on one hard drive, but I will seperate them onto 2 different hard drives on the new machine - although folder format will stay the same), and I want to know how, after O have installed Plex on the new machine, how I can transfer my settings of users linked to the server etc, so myself and all my family members will not lose there tracking of movies and episodes watched etc. Any help will be much appreciated.
Here you go
In your particular use case you’ll need to also consider the procedures for moving the media locations. Doing it both at once can be a bit tricky but should be possible.
Edit: “at once” meaning 1st move the install, 2nd tell Plex about the updated media locations (split in 2 drives)
I am trying to do the same as the OP, but it seems that I can only find answers which point to an outdated process before PLEX changed the location of server data. Up until November 2020, it was easy to simply copy from LOCALAPPDATA from an old PC and then paste back to LOCALAPPDATA on a new PC. That is no longer an option, but the often referenced Plex Support page for moving an install still uses that method and people still seem to link to that outdated page as was done here above. Is there a one pager somewhere which outlines the process since the change in November 2020?
How is it no longer applicable?
Unless you manually moved your server data directory, it should still be located in LOCALAPPDATA – unless I’m severely mistaken.
Edit: had to double-check with some actual Windows users… no such change. Default PMS data directory location hasn’t changed and the mentioned support articles are still valid!
