Situation 1: I have a tv show with old DVD copies of the episodes. I buy the BD and rip it in better quality. I load those into the folder and delete the old DVD copies. The TV show behaves properly and does not add to “Recently Added in TV Shows”
Situation 2: I have my TV library pointed to 2 different folders one on the network, one on local storage. If I move the files from one location to the other and they show up in “Recently Added in TV Shows” but they continue to show as watched if I watched it previously.
Situation 3: I have my TV library pointed to 2 different folders one on the network, one on local storage. If I copy the files from one location to the other and they do not show up in “Recently Added in TV Shows”. But then when I delete the original copy they do show up in “Recently Added in TV Shows” just as if I had moved them as in situation 2.
Make sure Plex picks up the files in the new location as duplicates before you remove the originals.
In Settings → Library, disable Empty trash automatically after every scan.
For situations 2 & 3, copy the files to the new location and leave the originals in place.
Manually scan the library.
Verify Plex picks up the files in both locations. Perform a Get Info for one of the episodes. You should see both files listed (Plex should see them as duplicates).
Remove the files from the original location, scan for changes, empty trash.
A Get Info should now show only the file in the new location. The episodes should not be listed under Recently Added.
I’ll uncheck empty trash automatically and see if that changes the behavior.
Previously I did confirm Plex detected the new files. In get info it showed both copies of the file. It doesn’t make a difference if I delete the original copy through Plex client by deleting I there or deleting it manually in the file system. the results are the same.
