Since upgrading to the new TVOS on my Apple TV, my .mp4 home movies no longer play and I get an error saying can not play this type of media” anyone have this issue?

I just checked this on my Apple TV 4K (1st gen) but cannot reproduce this issue. My mp4 files seem to be playing just fine.
Does this issue persist on your system if you force-quit / restart the Plex app on your Apple TV or reboot the Apple TV?
yes, i just tried restarted the ATV and the app and same issue…videos play fine on my plex app on my Iphone XR…Still an issue…get the message something went wrong playing your media…sometimes I’ll get sound from video but most times this error message…
What version of PMS do you have installed and on which platform?
I’m on Plex app version 7.24 on Apple TV running TVOS 15.1… didn’t work in previous version either 15.01.. It plays the MP2 videos but not the MP4’s…
I was asking about your Plex Media Server – not the player/client 
Have you by chance enabled the option Settings > Experience > Disable Enhanced Video Player?
Even if you’re using the legacy player, that should at worst cause your PMS to transcode the mpeg2 video… the new/current player will deal even with those mpeg2 files just fine (no transcoding required).
