K i know it has to be something simple. So i have been playing old MP4 of Hogan’s Hero’s from my PLEX MEDIA SERVER which is in the other room via WiFi it played Episode 1-20 fine.
Now i’m having problems with playback I haven’t change anything BUT all of a sudden It just freezes and gives me a your connection is gone or lost or to slow for playback BUT if i drop out of PLEX and do a Speedtest i’m getting 300mps and then bring PLEX back and it starts playing where it left off. now one more thing i noticed once it freezes I can back out of the playback to home screen turn around and click back to Continue Watching and it starts play again for about 2 or 3 minutes and it freezes again and do the samething and it starts playing so it’s not the Internet for what reason it would need the internet when it in the other room connected by WiFi never needed it before if I’m home watching my stuff. Is there something I’m missing that I can fix this issue it’s really annoying out and back in to watch a TV Show like I said it was working fine before. I looked at the MP4 file and they’re the same size and format as the ones that worked fine i thought maybe they’re corrupt BUT how would i find that out? Any help Please Thanx
I figure it out I’m losing the remote access. I can refresh it and it connects then not 5 seconds later it losses the remote access so there is the culprit. Now how do i get that back someone had a real easy way of setting it up and checking the port to make sure it works right. the thing that bothers me is I have changed NOTHING why all of a sudden did it flip out and erase my Port forwarding that I had set all ready
K figure it out some more. okay I changed my internet provider from Spectrum to AT&T Fiber well apparently it changed all my IP addresses on my router so now nothing stays connected I couldn’t even IP into my router like i could before that’s when I figured out that the IP changed so now Working on trying to get back to the original IP before I pull all my hair out
If you’re on AT&T Fiber with a BGW-320 router, see Changed ISP - No Remote Access with AT&T BGW 320-500 - #3 by FordGuy61. Substitute your server for the WD My Cloud.
Default IP address on the router is 192.168.1.254 (mine, anyway). If you want to change any settings, the admin password is on the back of the router.
How is remote access the issue when you’re playing from a server in the other room?
I was thinking the samething BUT this is the only thing I can come up with because I can literally sit in front of my PLEX Media Server in settings and watch it go from remote access to no remote access. The other thing that’s weird is I have all my network drives BUT now I can’t see any of my network drives when I boot my laptop up I can see the PLEX MS drive under network drives sit there for a few minutes it’s gone. I use to be able to get into my LinkSys router setting behind a Spectrum Gateway with 192.168.1.1 not now the LinkSys router sets behind a AT&T Fiber Gateway and it’s now a 10.277. #.# to get into it. so I’m think this is why it works then doesn’t work because port forwarding IP address no long has the right IP address. I’m just kinda winging because since I’ve gone to AT&T Fiber a lot of things are working on and off.
That’s normal. When you first open the settings it defaults to showing the remote access as working while it tests it, and then changes the status after the test fails. It wasn’t working for those 5 seconds, it just hasn’t completed the test yet.
I think you’re getting some IP addresses mixed up here. It sounds like you’re on Carrier Grade NAT now, but that’s not going to effect the local ips your devices get from your router. Having two routers operating will cause double NAT issues on its own, so you either want the AT&T gateway bridged or stop using the Linksys and connect everything direct to the AT&T gateway. But if you’re on Carrier Grade NAT you’ll want to get that changed of you want remote access to ever work.
I never use the Router they give me just like the Spectrum Router never used it my LinkSys Router is a 8 port and I use all of them so their Routers aren’t worth anything to me NOT enough ports. So there is some kinda of difference in between the Spectrum and the AT&T gateway what changed between them and how do I fix that. How do I get my IP addresses back to the way they use to be.
If the local ip addressing is different between the two devices you should be able to get that changed. Even if you can’t log in via a web interfaces AT&T might have an app you can log in on and manage your gateway with (talking about the AT&T router specifically). If they don’t, then you will just want to call their support people and have them make the change remotely. They undoubtedly have remote admin abilities on their own equipment.
None of this is going to effect your Linksys unless you happen to have it set up for the same local ip addressing subnet their gateway uses, in which case them changing their gateway addressing will allow yours to work properly again.
do y’all think it would work to just make the AT&T Fiber BGW320-505 a pass through to my LinkSys would fix the IP issues?
Here’s a new one I just finished watching the same MP4 that was causing the glitches on my IPad at home over the WiFi and it played flawless so here another question I was watching this same MP4 through my Apple TV at home over the same WiFi could the Apple TV be the culprit to my glitches?
If you prefer to be in control of and manage your own network, this would be the better option. Everything should operate the same as it did before with your Spectrum setup. Keep in mind the processing power of your router needs to be able to handle the speed of your new connection though (since you didn’t mention how old the Linksys is).
Can’t comment on the Apple TV issues, but if other devices work that generally would mean the issue is not the router or Plex server itself.
the LinkSys router is late 2017 model
okay have regained my IP addresses back the way it was before the AT&T Fiber gateway took over everything seems to be working right again except back to the original problem i finally managed to get a picture of it because it show up and disappears so fast
it freezes with the error message in the upper right corner
"You connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video. Check your network or try a lower quality. "
now remember this is thru WIFi streaming though why would i get this message if the Server along with the Router is in the spare room not even 10’ feet away. Now I can stream PLEX thru Apple TV and play Big Bang Theory and never see this message and I’m streaming it the same way I can go back to the Video that started this mess and play it thru File Explore on my IPad thru WiFi and it never glitches so I’m still trying to narrow it down to if it’s the PLEX or the Apple TV causing the problem. If I could figure out where the error message is from PLEX or Apple TV i could nail the issue down
Don’t take this message as true if you see it. It’s an error message Plex likes to trot out for a variety of reasons and does not mean the issue is your network or your server. I’ve gotten it most frequently on subtitle rendering difficulties.
K. I turned off the auto adjust quality under video and it seams to have worked so I’m happy if it will keep working I’m good.
