Much faster (hopefully), smaller (mostly) and better PMS builds preview (1.15.0.573-123756e9a)

I downloaded 1.15.0.550; I’m experiencing the same error that I reported in this thread (“Streaming this media is unsupported”).

@tamas any idea when we might have a version of the build for the Shield that we can sideload and test?

Edit: btw, I run DVR and Live TV from my shield server, not my NAS… which is why I was hoping for a shield build

Hi @ChuckPa and Gang,
I’m just wondering with a few of us that use Live TV that are having signal issues, would it be possible to adjust the next Preview version to allow lower signal channels? I say this as one of the Mux’s here in South Wales has a slightly weaker transmitting power than the others and from time to time Plex drops out with a “Playback Error” yet I know the channels are fine through my normal DTV and through other software on Linux.
Just a suggestion, one that I was going to ask yesterday about, but with my 4 week old Daughter requiring my attention a lot, I wasn’t able to post anything. Other than this, my 6 users that use my server remotely aren’t having any issues, and neither are the users on my Network which are myself on a Tablet and Phone, and my Girlfriend with her Xbox One, just the issue with the TV.

Cheers,

Dave

Hello all,

We are closing in on an actual release and today we pushed 1.15.0.573-123756e9a to the Alpha channel. We want as many eyes on this as possible, so we are also posting here. As usual, I’m updating the parent post as well. Find the downloads below!

@tamas, thank you! I know the build number change is a small one, but any indications of what has changed? Is it all small bug fixes? =D

@sixones

@marcjt we mainly fixed things around updating and running in Docker (but that appears to be broken for another reason still Docker should work now). The release notes (which is a summary of changes from 1.14) are the following:

FIXES:

  • (DVR) Avoid a few crashes around parsing bad JSON from OnConnect (#8889)
  • (DVR) Avoid downloading XMLTV files to disk before parsing (#9272)
  • (DVR) Certain scheduled recordings would incorrectly show an error. (#9325)
  • (DVR) Change the way Plex Tuner Service returns keys for TVButler devices, especially on macOS, to properly handle using multiple TVButlers on the same system. N.B. This is a breaking change for users of TVButler devices. Those users will need to delete and recreate their DVR to use the new device information. (#8760)
  • (DVR) Disk space checking underestimates the necessary amount of space when starting recordings (#8807)
  • (DVR) Ensure grab operations get destroyed after a tune fails (#9465)
  • (DVR) Fixed a bug where changing recording priority would not update the schedule. (#9035)
  • (DVR) Log which device we’re allocating a tuner from
  • (DVR) Output signal strength/quality information into log periodically during tunes (#9503)
  • (DVR) Plex Tuner Service now properly detects when a transcode session exited due to signal failure and releases the tuner (#9174)
  • (DVR) Revert timeout changes, should help with timeouts during tune startup (#9473,
  • (DVR) Translate Guide header for clients to display (#8698)
  • (Library) Library summary endpoint should report the correct duration for large music libraries (#9223)
  • (Live TV) Fix for intermittent tune failures. (#9412)
  • (Live) Avoid delaying video playback while leading audio plays (#9343)
  • (Music) Restricting music libraries with labels could prevent them from loading. (#8935)
  • (Scanner) Add support for reading Opus metadata (#5974)
  • (Transcoder) Seeking in DASH streams could be unreliable (#9137)
  • Corrected rare crash involving accessing User data (#9464)
  • Removed some remaining uses of plaintext HTTP (#8958)
  • The server could crash when TV media was being deleted. (#9350)
  • Updated translations

I don’t have a changelist from 550->573 sadly and it would be complicated to gather it (since 550 was not a formal release).

is it safe to install these alpha builds over standard release installations?

or must we uninstall any non-alpha first, then install the latest alpha?

As safe as any alpha. You should be able to install it over either an earlier alpha or a stable release. But keep in mind that this build is in alpha because we don’t yet know if it’s good enough for general usage. So be careful, make backups etc.

I’ve had no issues at present with these versions, other than Live TV dropping out on PMP on both Ubuntu and Roku because it doesn’t either like weak signals or it was something else?
I’d like to see signal strength allowed for weaker signals, as I’ve had no problem problems with the channels using another app that Plex finds hard to play, but I’m still a happy Plex user

Dave

OK, I just wanted to make sure the alpha could upgrade over an existing release install.

I will test this latest one out on my readynas later tonight. Not sure how many readynas users on this thread, but if none so far I will take one for the team, so to speak.

Installed the new Alpha version, Version 1.15.0.573, and one of my recordings “Recording failed. Please check your tuner or antenna.”

As others have said please do not judge. I recorded show “Murder, She Wrote” as it was starting shortly after I installed the Alpha version. I hope the log helps.

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-01-15_12-40-30.zip (2.5 MB)

So Far so good with MacOS this version launches on MacOS El Capitan (10.11.6) and I have not noticed any issues so far with this release. I will continue testing.

Are there any plans of updating Plex Web to the current release before this moves to the beta channel ?

Regards,
Scott

So far the new alpha build works much better on macOS then 545. No Problem with Library Scan so far. Will stay on this version for now.

I was unable to install this readynas build.

I attempted to install it through the normal app update/upload provided with the readynas web management.

The first attempt was with plex still running (which has always worked on plex current builds), and a second attempt after stopping plex via the readynas web app admin page.

Both attempts resulted in an immediate dialog with the message: cannot install application plexmediaserver.

I have downloaded an archive of my nas system logs. I can provide them intact or with specific log files to a PM of choice.

Plex continues to run 1.14.1.5488 with no apparent changes (doesn’t appear anything was modified or partially installed).

readynas model: 528x
readynas os6 version: 6.10.0-t272 beta 3

edit: I also attempted to install this build on 2 other readynas devices which have not had plex installed and both failed as well. So this leads me to believe that something is wrong/broken/different about the installer than the release version, and does not appear to be related to the existing installation.

When will indexing work with Language, all my content is Indexed in english ?

I had to delete my folders and recreate them to get my language.

Search was working in Danish Durring new index, but when finished, most was back to English again.

Install on my NAS WD MyCloud PR4100
Plex does not show me my libraries anymore.

Working a charm on Ubuntu, even with the 2 limit HW Transcoding on my current Nvidia GPU.
The only issues I’ve had are with PMP under Ubuntu coming up with Playback Error on Live TV at random intervals and one of my remote users uses a Samsung Smart TV powered by WebOS and he’s found a slight of of sync issue, but that could be with PMP on the TV?

Dave

running the 573 release on Windows Server 2019 since yesterday, working stable so far. Haven’t been able to test with P2000 yet as i had to remove it due to cooling issues.

When i have the ordered equipment to modify the hardware i’ll run tests with the P2000 again.
