Multi disc in one ablum shows as multiple albums

I noticed that the Premium Music Scanner code just uses a regex to detect multi-disc albums.

Can it be updated to also look for DISC / DISCNUMBER / DISCC / DISCTOTAL tags?

Thanks

I find it strange that they spend a lot of resources to add a functionality that nobody is actually asking for and leave a showstopper bug inside. This was my reason to stop the Plex Pass subscription and look further. Company not listening to its own customers is doomed, especially when they don't listen to paying ones.

I'm confused (and I disagree respectfully that we're not listening to our users). What showstopper bug did we leave? If you're referring to multi-disc support, feel free to upload a sample and PM me about it.

Then why has this thread been ignored for so long by Plex staff? A bug what would take probably 1 hours work from the devs. But instead they insist on implementing useless features that nobody will use.

We've been working on this music update for months. I apologize for not coming in here sooner and saying "hey, this is important to us" earlier.

You're completely 100% wrong about it being "1 hour's work". There were server changes, scanner changes, and client changes in order to support this.

What "useful features" are you annoyed at?

I myself as a programmer of 10 years+ cannot see how this issue is server side or anything to do with the scanner. The scanner is doing a great job, all what needs to be done is client side read the "disc" tag and output to the client exactly as the disc tag says Rather than ignoring the disc tag all together. I still pay for plex pass myself but I don't know why

So I'll correct myself here; you're right, the scanner didn't need any changes.

However, the server and clients did. In the new world, there's a single album which all tracks in all discs belong to. As I'm sure you can imagine with your decade of experience, this isn't a trivial change.

Anyway, we can quibble over how long it took, and how we should have prioritized it differently, but the bottom line is: the feature now exists :)

Lol sorry about the rant. I didn't even know this issue was fixed, I just saw a reply from the Plex team and started a rant.

Anyway that is great that this issue is fixed and I will test tomorrow when I wake up.

Thanks, and sorry if I come across as a titles :)

No worries at all :D

I apologize for not coming in here sooner and saying "hey, this is important to us" earlier.

That would have been appreciated, and very easy to do.

Here's the problem I still have;

Capture.PNG?psid=1

As others have said, the meta tags for the disc numbers are still being ignored and double albums are being compiled as per the image (1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, etc.)

While updating the disc values in Plex fixes the issue, I personally have spent a significant time in organising my tags and ensuring they are accurate, I don't want to spend anymore time manually updating each multi-disc album in Plex.

On that note, It also bothers me that Plex with the Gracenote database makes changes to the track titles and/or formatting that I have spent so much time on.

My two cents.

As I've commented in another few threads, we'll be adding an option to always respect tags.

That having been said, your Pink Floyd example should work fine, I'd love to get an upload to have a look for myself.

For me there are 2 showstoppers which makes for me the Plex music experience useless:

- no proper multidisc recognition;

- no gapless playing.

I could upload samples, but why should I? I've already lost my interest in Plex music streaming, and for my configuration I have a perfect alternative: DS audio from Synology. Needless to mention that it has no problems mentioned above, moreover it streams not only to Chromecast but to my Samsung TV without need of any additional client (saves lot of time for starting a client). I guess it has worse graphic, but it is hardly to me to notice it because when I listen to the music I don't watch the screen.

The Pink Floyd sample would never work fine without gapless playing. When are you planning to support it?

That option would be great (and a necessity for me).

Once that is added (with last.fm scrobbling) and the multi-disc issues are ironed out, I'm all in!

Regarding Pink Floyd, do you mean the music files? I only use FLAC, but I'll convert them to MP3 and send a link (if that's what you mean).

I'm not sure what it'll achieve though, disc numbering in ID3 tags is pretty standard.

I just installed the latest Plex server on my Drobo5N.  The "Multi disc in one ablum shows as multiple albums" issue is fixed.  All of my ID3 tags are correct, and always have been.  Most were set by iTunes, but I used MusicBrainz Picard on some.

All is good now with multi disc albums.

Thanks to the devs.

elan,  several of us are wondering why putting "Local Media Assets" at the top of the Agent settings doesn't achieve this already.  Is it broken, or are we misunderstanding the function described here?

EDIT:  Never mind, I just found your explanation here:  https://forums.plex.tv/topic/159820-multi-disc-support-not-working-for-me-in-09120/?p=918615

Hello,

The problem is fixed now !

Thank you for the Devs. :D

Glad to hear it!

I have a library using the new Premium Music format - very happy - just one anomaly related to this thread. I have ripped the Eric Clapton Crossroads collection (4 cd) to my library. Disc 1, 3, 4 appear perfectly within the main Crossroads album listed as Disc 1, Disc 3, Disc 4. Plex refuses to incorporate Disc 2 and shows it as a separate album. Is there a way to force this (I tried renaming the Crossroads 2 album and ended up with multiple entries for Disc 1).

Likely what's happening is that the title for disc 2 is different, and it's coming back from Gracenote identified as Disc 1, hence why things get merged.

Two things you can do:

1. Select all the tracks from the separate disc 2 and multi-edit the disk number to be two, and then merge it into the other multi-disc album.

2. Upload a zip of the collection so we can see if there's a way we can make the scan smarter :)
